360 Photo Booth vs Magic Mirror: Floor Space, Throughput and Price

The 360 booth is the one thing that genuinely changed in wedding entertainment since 2023. It’s on every vendor’s front page, and it’s the first thing couples ask about after they’ve watched their friends’ videos.

The comparisons you’ll find stop at which one is more fun, which helps nobody. Both are fun. The difference that decides how your night goes shows up on the floor plan, with a tape measure, and only after that in the price. One of these machines wants clear floor in exactly the spot you were saving for dancing. The other one leans against a wall.

What each one asks of your room

The most useful vendors are the ones renting every format and publishing the requirements side by side, so you’re comparing numbers measured the same way. Flash Cube in Cincinnati lists theirs:

Other vendors put the 360 at a 10x10 foot minimum with 9 feet of ceiling. That’s twice the floor for the same machine, which is worth pausing on. We’ll come back to it.

Everything else is roughly the same across formats: a three-pronged outlet within 20 feet, a flat surface, about 30 minutes to set up, and a crew that shows up an hour before you open. Some 360 units run on battery, which quietly removes the single most common day-of failure.

Two things are missing from every table like this one, and you have to add them yourself. The first is the line, which is a physical object with physical dimensions and appears in no quote. The second is the props table, without which half these machines don’t make sense; vendors suggest an 8-foot rectangle or a 6-foot round. Both add roughly the same amount to every format, so the ranking holds, but the real number is 15 to 25 square feet bigger than anything above.

What doesn’t scale evenly is the shape. The mirror’s 72 square feet is a rectangle pinned to a wall: the unit is slim, and the space you’re clearing is the runway in front of it. The 360’s floor is a square with a podium in the middle and a motorized arm sweeping around it at head height. It can’t touch a wall on any side.

The 8-foot circle that doesn’t survive its own spec sheet

Take the two published numbers from vendors who rent this exact machine. The platform is 32 inches across. The camera arm “can extend up to 3 feet away from the edge.”

Add those up: 32 inches, plus 3 feet on one side, plus 3 feet on the other, is 8 feet 8 inches of swept diameter. So an “8 foot diameter circle” is already smaller than the arm’s own reach, before anyone steps on. Put a person on the platform holding a drink and you need more again.

This isn’t a scam, it’s sloppy copywriting, and it matters anyway, because it’s the sentence you screenshot at midnight and forward to your venue coordinator. When a vendor gives you a space figure, ask two things: is that a diameter or a square, and does it include the arm’s clearance? The difference between a 50 square foot answer and a 100 square foot answer is a quarter of your dance floor.

The same gap shows up in other markets, which is a decent sanity check. Romanian vendors publishing all four formats on one page ask 3.5 x 3.5 m for the 360 against 3 x 3 m for the mirror: 132 square feet against 97. Different country, different units, same ratio. The 360 needs about a third more floor than the mirror does. Plan on 10x10.

The 360 and the dance floor want the same square

This is the problem the enclosed booth and the mirror simply don’t have.

The standard sizing rule assumes 40 to 50 percent of your guests are dancing at any one moment, at about 4 square feet each. The Knot publishes the results straight, in feet:

Nobody’s suggesting you park the booth on the dance floor. The point is that both want the same thing: the one large, flat, completely clear area in the room. Most reception spaces have exactly one of those. If your venue contact says there’s plenty of room, ask where, because the answer is usually the entry foyer, where the booth blocks the only route people walk.

The mirror sits out of this fight entirely. It needs a solid wall and a clear runway in front of it, which is the part of a room nobody else has a use for.

Throughput, measured against the floor you gave up

The usual line is that a 360 booth barely moves anybody. That’s overstated, and the exaggeration wrecks an argument that’s fine on its own.

A 360 session is: group climbs on, props handed over, two or three rotations, climb off, video renders. The clip itself is 30 seconds by default, adjustable between 20 and 60, and it lands on the sharing station in about a minute. Realistically a group clears every two and a half minutes. Platforms hold 2 to 4 adults, some rated to 4 at 800 lbs, so a group of eight friends is going up in shifts.

A mirror session is: group arranges itself, four poses, pick the shot, print, sign the screen. Call it three minutes, for 6 to 10 people, because there are no walls to squeeze between.

These are estimates, and a good attendant moves them more than the hardware does. The conclusion survives anyway: the 360 doesn’t process dramatically fewer people per hour than a mirror. It just needs a third more floor to do it. You’re paying in square feet for throughput you don’t get back.

There’s a second queue nobody warns you about. At the mirror, the group takes its print and walks away. At the 360, the group climbs down and clusters around the sharing station to scan for their clip. That’s where the real bottleneck forms, not at the platform. The fact that vendors sell a sharing station as a separate line item tells you the download step needs furniture of its own.

What your guests actually leave with

The product difference is bigger than it looks and worth taking seriously.

A 360 booth produces a video file. To get it, a guest needs their phone, a scan, and often the venue’s wifi: vendors ask for a stable connection with at least 10 Mbps upload for instant sharing, though some deliver over AirDrop or a local QR handoff instead. In a barn 40 minutes outside town, the difference between those two architectures decides whether the service works at all. Ask which one you’re getting.

A mirror produces an object. A dye-sub printer lays down a 4x6 in 8.3 seconds, dry, waterproof and smudge-proof the moment it drops, and good vendors print a copy for every person in the frame. Your grandmother gets something for the fridge without scanning anything.

That’s not an argument for the mirror, it’s a question about your guest list. At a wedding full of people under 35, the 360 clip is the best-used thing in the room, because it’s on Instagram before the cake and it puts the party back in everyone’s feed the next morning. At a wedding with a lot of older relatives, a rotating podium in full view of the room is something half your guests will never try.

What it costs

Here’s where the last myth breaks. A 360 booth is not categorically more expensive than a mirror. The bands overlap almost completely, and which vendor you pick matters more than which technology.

On one vendor’s own list the 360 costs $175 more than the traditional booth over four hours. On a wedding where the DJ alone averages $1,800, that gap is not the deciding factor. Floor space is.

Put the square on the plan before you sign

The floor plan in WeddingReimagined is drawn to scale in metres, with a one-metre grid and the real width and length of your room, so 10x10 feet is a 3x3 metre block. Draw in that order and it does the work for you.

Place the dance floor first, at the size from the table above for your guest count. Then drop a second block for the 360. If the two don’t fit without touching, you’ve learned that months before the deposit rather than on the night.

There’s no “360 platform” object in the toolbox, so use a Buffet for the booth and a Dance Floor for the floor, the two objects you can resize freely. The canvas refuses to overlap blocks with tables, so a physically impossible layout simply won’t draw.

Who each one is for

Take the 360 if you have a 10-foot square that isn’t already promised to the dance floor, 9 feet of clearance above it, a young guest list and a power situation you trust. It produces the best video in the room and it’s the worst neighbour at the table.

Take the mirror if the room is tight, if you’re over 150 guests, if you want full outfits in frame, and if you have a solid wall with about 9 feet of clear runway. It moves the most people per square foot you give up and hands out a physical object every session.

Take both only if the room is big enough to hold them on different walls without either one landing on the route to the bar. Combined packages exist and they’re priced fine. The constraint is floor, not budget.
